Organimi’s recent upgrade to v7 is a huge leap forward, and we are confident that you will agree. In the latest iteration of our organizational chart builder, there are many new customer feedback-driven updates and features for you to discover, and we are excited to share some of these with you through our blog.
One request that regularly came up in customer feedback was the ability to share org charts and files via Slack. As the pandemic hit and everyone started working from home, Slack integration requests came more and more frequently. For those of you who use Slack as part of your day-to-day, this will come as no surprise; it’s arguably one of the best productivity tools available today.
What is Slack?
For the uninitiated, Slack is a business communication platform designed primarily for facilitating internal communications. Slack offers a suite IRC-style features, including persistent chat rooms organized by topic, private groups, and direct messaging.
As the team at Slack put it, “It’s faster, better organised and more secure than email.”
Organimi & Slack
Customers on all Organimi plans can take advantage of our Slack integration to help make their organizational workflows more efficient and cohesive.
Here’s a look at some of the things you can do with Organimi and Slack:
1. Share Your Files
One of the most convenient ways to share your org chart is via a digital file that can be distributed to your team.
When you have built your org chart, you can use our printing functionality to export it as a PNG image, PDF, or PowerPoint (PPT) file. This can then be dragged and dropped into relevant Slack channels and chatrooms to individuals and teams.
Instead of sharing your org chart directly, why not create a dedicated Slack channel for your org chart? You can then stick the latest copy of your org chart file to the top of the channel and provide chat-based updates when something changes. This gives your team a memorable point of reference so they can dip in and out of your org chart when they need to.
2. Share a Public Link
Instead of sharing a downloadable file, you can instead opt to share a public link. This will allow anybody with the link to go directly to the latest version of your org chart rather than having to re-download files when new updates are released. It’s also much more convenient; the link can be added to your bookmarks for easier access.
When a public link has been generated, it can be shared in the same way as org chart files can—imply copy and paste the link to relevant Slack channels and chat groups.
3. Receive Feedback within Slack
When sharing your org chart to individuals and teams, Slack gives you the opportunity to receive real-time comments and feedback from your colleagues. And because Slack makes it much easier to access your org charts, people are far more likely to engage with and weigh in on them.
If you share your org chart in Slack as a PDF file, members of the channel will also be able to see a preview of it. This allows people to have a quick glance of who’s who within your organization and, again, brings an increased level of engagement with it from your team.
